Purchased this drive to use with my 17" MBP via Firewire 800. I've been blown away by the transfer speeds, consistency of writing/reading speeds, portability, etc... Truly the ultimate drive, I've been using it for a couple of months now with no problems of any kind, it's super quiet, stays at a reasonable temperature, connects to just about every configuration. Also, the drive is powered by the firewire bus, so no power, or secondary cables necessary. Drive consistently writes at 55-60MB/sec (huge movie files), and reads at 60MB/sec (even the fastest USB 2.0 drives cant touch these speeds).
Excellent first impression

I've had this hard disk a short time & have done one complete backup to it. This took several hours -- about 115 GB, verified. I was impressed with how quietly the disk operates and was relieved that it didn't get too warm. The drive came with a good supply of cables and a dock that works for Firewire 800. The design fits well with my iMac, and it's compact. My only reservation is that the sides and bottom are made of a plastic that has a soft, grippy texture. This is good for handling and stability, but if I get a pen mark on it, I doubt I can scrub it out. The top is metal, though, and the entire casing feels solid. Overall, the product appears first-class.
Fast, portable, and convenient.

I use this drive for Final Cut Studio. I edit exclusively in XDCAM EX HD, it works quickly and flawlessly with my MacBook Pro. It is a great solution for the production professional who travels to his or her clients.
Faster and still stylish

I own a previous 500GB of this model that I've had for the past year and decided to purchase this one that runs at a faster 7200rpm. I have to attest that this was a smart thought to buy the faster one this time. Both work very well, but the added speed is noticeable when I'm shooting tethered and running a direct save from my Mac running Adobe Lightroom straight to this hard drive. The download and upload speed are greatly increased and the unit is still as stylish as my last one. This one comes with a cradle that connects directly into an 800 firewire terminal port on your computer. It also comes with adapter cords that include a USB (used with a Tiny USB to USB for power(included)) and Firewire 400 to 800. This unit is very versatile, easy to use, and for me it's been very reliable and easy to take anywhere a job or assignment might take me. I'm a photographer and because I shoot 100% digital, I in-turn use a large amount of hard drive space per year. Being able to carry a portable drive with me versus lugging around a desktop hard drive is an added plus for me. This Seagate product earns an A+++ in my book.I use the following products with my Seagate portable hard drive: Nikon Capture NX 2 Full VersionAdobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.0 (Win/Mac)Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
Love it

I purchased this drive to use for video files on my Macbook Pro. It is extremely fast using the fire wire 800 connection on the drive. I also can use it on my iMac to transfer large files. I cannot find anything I do not like about this drive. At 7200RPM it runs circles around my other drives.
